Myths & Legends: Isis and Osiris
According to Egyptian Mythology, Osiris is the God of life, death and the flooding of the Nile. He was said to be a wise and gentle ruler. His wife and sister, the Goddess Isis protected children, healed the sick and was the most powerful magician, even being able to perform spells on Ra. They ruled together and were beloved by their people. Their brother Set was overwhelmed with jealousy and tricked Osiris into a box and set the box into the Nile River. Isis searched for the box for a long time until she found it and brought it back to Egypt. Set then discovered where she hid it, chopped the body into many pieces and scattered them throughout Egypt. Isis again searched for the body of Osiris piece by piece, putting them back together until she was able to get all the pieces except one. She was able to bring him back to life for only one night for even she didn’t have enough power to bring him back for longer.
